Is it possible to deposit any asset using ILendingPool?

Is it possible to deposit any asset using ILendingPool?
For instance, can I deposit LDO? Can I borrow LDO against USDC? Or only ones that are whitelisted by Aave?

Only assets that have been approved by Aave governance;
